Crews

All aid stations are available for crew access. Crews are to provide assistance to runners only within 200 meters of an aid station. Crews are discouraged from catching runners outside of aid stations on account of traffic regulations and the risk of disturbing private land-owners. Supplies present at aid stations are for the use and consumption of athletes only. Driving directions for crews can be found below. Relay teams are reminded that only one car is permitted to be in use for crewing purposes at any given time.

Pacers

Considering the density of some forested sections and night-time route-following, pacers will be permitted for the safety of 100 mile solo athletes according to the following:

  • Pacers may join runners only at aid stations beginning with AS#9 Hitching Post, mile 44.5, or after 19:00, whichever comes first. This is an extension over years 1 and 2 per requests to increase the safety of participants on sometimes tricky trails after dark.
  • Pacers are not permitted to mule or assist runners outside of aid stations through carrying gear, running ahead to refill supplies, or leading in navigation.
  • A list of individuals interested in pacing will be accrued by race management and provided to runners per request as available. Race management will not be responsible for guaranteeing that pacers are available and racers should prepare accordingly.
  • Race organizers and volunteers are not in any way responsible for the security of vehicles left on the course or for the transportation of pacers.
Driving Directions and Parking for Runner Crews

Please remember to print off a Crew Map and these directions for use by your crew vehicles before you leave home as we may not have enough copies at the race!

Note: These directions take you in one direction only, from AS#1 to AS#5, the turnaround at the Rock Pile. If you’re meeting your runner at each AS you’ll reverse each of them to get back (one of your mental floss challenges for the day/s). Please be courteous re: where you park, and only form a line on one side of the road. Where possible, pull off the road to park, and let cars pass so as not to annoy the locals any more than they might be (which can result in stripping or vandalism of course markers). Please be cautious of runners crossing the roads as you approach the AS’s and be aware yourself as locals may be driving pretty fast on the road you’re pulling off of or parking on.

  • Hope Lake Park (Start and AS# 10) to Hitching Post (AS#'s 1 and 11): 1.3 miles

Exit park with left turn onto Clute Rd. Hitching Post AS 1.3 miles up in gravel parking area on left. Please make left onto Vinnedge Rd just shy of bottom of hill and either park in lot (enter/exit the same entrance) or along Vinnedge Rd. Please DO NOT park on Clute Rd. If parking on Vinnedge please park on right side only. There is a turnaround point about ¼ mile down Vinnedge if need be.

  • Hitching Post (AS#'s 1 and 11) to Cortland 9 (AS#'s 2 and 12): 6 miles

Exit Vinnedge Rd w/ right turn onto Clute, driving 1.83 miles (passing Hope Lake Park) to a left turn onto Rt. 392. In 0.95 miles (2.8 mi total) take a left onto Carson Rd. In 2.35 mi (5.15 total) take a left onto forest service Cortland 9 Rd. Cortland 9 AS about 0.8 miles up on left. Please do not drive past cones ahead of AS unless an AS volunteer. Please park only on the right side of Cortland 9 Rd and preferred in a logging lot about 0.5 miles in on the right (walking the final 0.3) to ease congestion around AS. Please pull off road as much as possible as it’s narrow and turning around will be tight.

  • Cortland 9 (AS#'s 2 and 12) to Hurt Locker (AS#'s 3 and 13): 4 miles

Return back out Cortland 9 Rd ~ 0.8 miles to a right onto Carson Rd. At 3.2 miles take a right back onto Rt 392 and at 4.05 miles take a left into the Greek Peak Alpine Resort Parking lot. Park in front of visitor’s center and office. Walk through chain link / fence to the right and up the grassy slope to the AS.

  • Hurt Locker (AS#'s 3 and 13) to The Crux (AS#s 4 and 14): 7.75 miles

Note: there is more direct access via VanDonsel/Valentine Hill Rd however it gets pretty rough and will bottom out 2WD vehicles just short of the AS. Additionally, runners will be running on that stretch of road and I’d REALLY prefer to keep it free of vehicular event traffic.

Turn right out of parking lot onto Rt.392. At 2.94 mi take a right onto Parker St / Rt 132. At 5.53 miles take a right onto Valentine Hill Rd. At 7.73 you'll arrive at a cones and AS sign saying park here. The AS is about 200 meters uphill to your right on Virgil Mountain Rd. Vehicular access for AS volunteer supply loading/unloading only.

  • The Crux to (AS#s 4 and 14) to The Rock Pile (AS#'s 5 and 15): 9 miles

Return the way you came 0.6 mi and make right turn onto Quail Valley Rd. Continue 1.5 mi (2.1 mi total) to the intersection with Harvey Hill Road, keep right to stay on Quail Valley Road. Continue 0.1 mi (2.2 mi total) to the intersection with Tickner Road, make left to stay on Quail Valley Road. Continue on Quail Valley Road 1.5 mi (3.7 mi total) to Flint Road, make right turn. Continue on Flint Road 0.8 mi (4.5 mi total) to Rt. 221, make right turn onto Rt. 221. Continue on Rt. 221 for 1.3 mi (5.8 mi total), make right onto Babcock Hollow Road (Rt. 131). Continue north on Babcock Hollow Road for 1.8 mi (7.6 mi total) to Bleck Road, make right turn onto Bleck Road. Follow Bleck Road north for ~0.9 mi (~8.5 mi total) to the FLT crossing. Please park on one side of the road only and move to shoulder (which drops off steeply so use caution) as much as possible. The Rock Pile AS is left (west, starts downhill, crosses creek, then goes uphill) up the trail about 0.5 miles.

Note: There is a more direct route using Tickner and Scutt Hill Roads to get from Quail Valley Road to Bleck Road; however, these are narrow, steep, seasonal roads which may be difficult to traverse with a 2WD vehicle, especially if it rains. Also, there are very few places where two-way traffic can pass. This can become an issue as crews are moving between these 2 aid stations since The Rock Pile is the turnaround point.
